Hector Curriel was born in Lima,
Peru. His passion for the arts started when he was very little, a habit that he expressed with
keen enthusiasm. In 1983, after finishing high school, he studied architecture at Engineering National University in
Lima, Peru, where he continued perfecting his drawing and painting skills for the next eight years while working in fields as varied as architect designer, cartoonist and illustrator.
In 2001 he moved to the Unites States and he studied art at Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, MN. In 2005, he moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where he started to work as a freelance artist working initially as a political cartoonist for some newspapers located in South Dakota, New Mexico, California, Oklahoma, and the Hispanic Link in Washington, DC. He has held several positions and as an illustrator and muralist also.
He is a member of the SCBWI ( Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators).
Hector is also an accomplished school performer and holds frequent art workshops in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
He lives in Sioux Falls, SD.
